EMDR therapy in Florida
You’ve tried everything you can think of to feel better, but nothing’s sticking.
Have you ever caught yourself thinking of something from your past and suddenly feel like you’re reliving it? No matter how hard you try, you find yourself replaying events and conversations in your head over and over again until you feel anxious or depressed. Maybe you or other people have noticed you overreact to things or keep making harmful decisions and you just don’t understand why.
When an individual experiences something traumatic or disturbing, these experiences can get “stuck” in the brain, resulting in symptoms and emotions that negatively impact the individual. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is a unique, evidence-based approach that has been clinically effective to treat psychological stress related to traumatic events. Utilizing bilateral stimulation, this form of therapy seeks to address past traumatic experiences that continue to affect present-day thoughts, feelings, and emotions and help equip individuals with resources to be able to tolerate difficult feelings associated with the trauma.
EMDR therapy can help you help you break through the emotional blocks that are keeping you from living an adaptive, emotionally healthy life.

EMDR uses rapid sets of eye movements to help you update disturbing experiences, much like what occurs when we sleep. During sleep, we alternate between regular sleep and REM (rapid eye movement). This sleep pattern helps you process things that are troubling you. EMDR replicates this sleep pattern by alternating between sets of eye movements and brief reports about what you are noticing. This alternating process helps you update your memories to a healthier present perspective.

EMDR utilized the natural healing ability of your body. After a thorough assessment and development of a treatment plan, you will be asked specific questions about a particular disturbing memory. Eye movements or tapping, similar to those during REM sleep, will be recreated. The eye movements will last for a short while and then stop. You will then be asked to report back on the experiences you had during each of these sets of eye movements. Experiences during a session may include changes in thoughts, images, and feelings.

EMDR can accelerate therapy by resolving the impact of your past traumas and allowing you to live more fully in the present. In addition to its use for the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, EMDR has been successfully used to treat a wide array of disorders such as helpful treatment for disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences.
